|Gray, gray and more gray - oh, and a big dose of white (about 55" of it season-to-date) - that's what I'm seeing in terms of color trends around here. So, I just had to break out of the igloo and check out what's really happening on the color front elsewhere in the world. Read on . . .

|Color Trends for 2011|
|Obviously, we don't change our interiors' color schemes as frequently as we change our apparel, but there's nothing wrong with shaking it up a bit with some fresh new colors in accessories or throw pillows (accent chair, anyone?). |
Hot 2011 colors include gray, coral, green, yellow, blue and red-cast blue (almost a purple). But how do you get inspired to use them? Here are my top picks complete with inspiration images to get your creative juices flowing:
- There's that color gray again - hey, they must have visited Minnesota to pick this color trend! It gets a bit muddier (warmer) than in years past, which should put all you brown-addicts (me included) at ease. I just painted a client's family room in Fairview Taupe (HC-85) - a great restful dark gray-brown.
- Coral will be hot, hot, hot! Be glam and try it in a powder room with white trim - crisp and sassy with gold and black accents. Or, use it as an accent color in a TV room (I'm picturing dark brown walls, velvet fabrics and punches of coral in vases, picture mats or tape trim on pillows). It's so flattering. Look how great it is paired with icy blue.
- When looking at green, two ends of the spectrum come together to make a really dynamic duo - Olive & Teal. This cool-tone combo works really well with the muddy gray-brown mentioned above. Add in splashes of canary yellow and you have one amazing color story (see client's photo of pillows & vase above).
